The Abbaye de Sainte Croix is a magnificent XII Century abbey located on one of the last strongholds of the Alpilles hills. This Romanesque monastery was restored from 1960 to 1970 to reach the standard of a four stars hotel.
Its Romanesque style with arched vaulting and little windows has been conserved. The rooms originally monk’s cells have been beautifully arranged and decorated respecting the style of the buildings. The Abbey which overlooks the medieval town of Salon de Provence dominates the most impressive panorama of the whole of Provence. This peaceful retreat so typically mirrors the harmony and seclusion sought by men of religion. The highest quality "cuisine" of the restaurant is appreciated in all the best catering guides of France. The quality of the food compliments these surroundings; refined traditional "cuisine" adds to this a little taste of Provence.
Today, Abbaye de Sainte Croix offers the same peace and quiet of the past, when monks needed absolute tranquillity for their prayers and meditation, and now it allows guests enjoy their stay. The bedrooms, tastefully fixed up in the monks' cells, harmonize perfectly with the Romanesque architecture of the building. No two are the same, and if one has south-facing terrace, another will be off the beautiful Chapel courtyard. In the dining room, Abbaye de Sainte Croix has large bay windows with a view, and in nice weather meals are served on the terrace. In the same way, in summer the hotel proposes a simple lunch service by the pool, reserved for hotel guests only.
