HISTORY OF  ABBAYE DES VAUX DE CERNAY

 

1118: Foundation of the Abbey of Vaulx-of-Cernay by a group of monks come from the Abbey of Savigny

1147: Fastening with the command of the cistercians. The domain is appropriate with a life in autarky: water is used for drinks, for there food with pisciculture, for the cleansing and energy with the mill.

1226 - 1247: Abbatiat de Thibault de Marly and apogee of the monastery.

XIVth century: Deceleration of the intellectual and material life. XVth century: abandonment of the buildings after the 100 year war XVIth century: attempts of revival. Rebuilding of the southern gallery, the cloister. XVIIème century: repair and maintenance of the buildings, spiritual revival. XVIIIth century: considerable work at the beginning of this century, then attenuation of the abbey due to heav
y charges.

     

1791: Sale of the movable and real goods of the abbey

1873: Acquisition of the park and the buildings, used since the revolution like career, by the baronne Nathaniel de Rothschild. Reconstitution of the domain.

1945: Repurchase by Mr. Amiot, manufacturer of planes the domain is used as a research center for about thirty years.
