ABOUT LAGUNAS DE RUIDERA NATURAL PARK

The ParkLa Mancha is a surprising region, in spite of his apparent uniformity. There are more contrasts than it could be imaginated in Spain. Since the dusty track that Azorín told, we go to a connected pool`s rosary with blue and green water and linked by a path of vegetation. The most splendid and evocative valley is the Campo de Montiel. In the source of Guadiana river is expanded to form the famous Lagunas de Ruidera (Ruidera Pools) aforementioned by Plinio.

The highest pool is in the valley of Pinilla River, at a height of 890 m. Near of it, the Pool of Concejo is 4 Km. Away, at a height of 855 m. Starting of here, we find a group of 13 Pools with different sizes; they flow 13 Km.. The latest are: Salvadora, Santo Morcillo, Batana, Colgada del Rey, Cueva de la Morenilla, Coladilla and Cenagosa. The last Pool is at height of 700 m. Sancho Panza mentioned it saying: "The seven are for the Kings of Spain and the two nieces of the Saint Order of San Juan knights. He refered to a famous legend about Mrs. Ruidera, her seven daughters, her nieces and the page Guadiana.

The ParkThe Lagunas de Ruidera are not excatly lagoons, but small lakes, as their waters are deep, clear and flowing. Numbering 14, they form a wonderful ribbon, one after the other, interlinked by small channels, natural waterfalls and springs. They are cut into the travertine limestone and are generally elliptical or circular. Some of them resemble fiords.
