Trieste is a beautiful and extraordinary city, anchored to a past which
it can not forget. Is an Italian port city located in the northeastern
part of Italy on the border with Slovenia, overlooking the Gulf of Trieste
at the corner of the Adriatic Sea. At one time a part of the Austro-Hungarian
Empire, Trieste was united with the rest of Italy after the first world war.
In fact, during its long and tumultuous history, the city has had extensive
contacts with different ethnic groups, including French, Austrian and
Slavic. This has given the town a cosmopolitan quality not found in other
Italian cities, and has contributed to its unique character. Trieste is
often overlooked by many tourists in favour of its better known sister city
of Venice, but for those looking for a relaxing "off the well-beaten path"
destination in Italy, the city offers many charms. |
