Auberge de
la Vignette Haute is situated up on the hills at less than 15 minutes driving from downtown Cannes. The view from up here gives all the serenity one can desire while being practically in Cannes. To make
Auberge de la Vignette Haute, the owner, an engineer from Paris, rebuilt a building over ruins more than three hundred years old. There is probably no other place like this anywhere in France. It has a beautiful swimming pool resembling one from medieval times, and as you enter the building, the feeling is of going back in time... The rooms are inside and outside, the ones outside share a nice terrace overlooking the valley. Every room is different, just as it was in those days. Last but not least, is the restaurant, a large high ceiling dining room lit only by candles (over 400 of them) where the way they serve the food is absolutely Medieval; first they bring to every table several raw vegetables and some dipping oil, followed by several courses of bountiful food. There is no menu to pick from, Its all a fixed price. An interesting part about
Auberge de la Vignette Haute is their sex museum with a valuable collection of related items and pictures that go as far back as time itself. This is not an open museum, but If you care to visit it, ask if it would be possible. |
