It is a port on the
Mediterranean Sea, located on Cape Boeo. Famous
for its sweet wine and Marsah al Allah [port of God]
. In 1860, Garibaldi landed there at the start of
his successful campaign to conquer the kingdom of
the Two Sicilies.
Situated on the most
westerly point of Sicily, Marsala is a town of wine,
myths and history.
A walk around the town offers features of great
artistic interest, including several museums, its
famous Spanish palaces, churches and works of art.
Not far away in the Nature Reserve of the Stagnone
is the Phoenician island of Mozia, with a museum
rich in ancient finds, and the salt-pans, which
offer a scene of extraordinary beauty with their
windmills.
Marsala is the ideal city in which to spend a
holiday of culture, seaside and relaxation or a
weekend in contact with nature and its myriad of
flavours.
It has been awarded the Blue Flag several times for
the clarity of the water and the cleanliness of its
beach, which has long expanses of sand and, on the
northern shores, rocks and deep water. |
