Set in a
17th century Manor House,
which clings to the rock side, right at the heart of the medieval village of Gordes, with fine views across the Luberon valley to where the road winds up from the
coast, La Bastide de Gordes, was
restored brick by brick and transformed into a tasteful hotel
in 1988. Its sober and majestic, Renaissance
facade, constructed to overhang what was
once the old walls of Gordes, from the
distance appears to be terraced into the hillside
shining proudly in the sun of Provence.
Upon arrival,
guests first get the
impression of being welcomed by friends to a beautiful private residence,
not just coming to a classic hotel. Then they appreciate the comfort of the warm, intimate lounges.
After a while they will enjoy a first drink in the coolness of the welcoming
shaded terraces, or descend down a circular
stone staircase to admire the turquoise blue waters of the swimming pool.
Spacious
and delightful, the rooms are luxurious without being ostentatious,
with
contemporary, antiques, and reproduction furnishings,
total comfort in perfect harmony with the fabrics
and the soft colours of the region.
The
restaurant's dining room, decorated with a beautiful
collection paintings by Provencal master, opens on to an
impressive terrace, facing the Lumberton and the
Lapillus,
glimpsed on the horizon. Refined,
light and delicious, its cuisine, known
for its inventive and creative style, has been adapted with
simplicity to the fine products of Province and the
Mediterranean.
Market-fresh ingredients, concocted into sublime
dishes are served to an appreciative clientele with discerning
palates.
It
is difficult not to fall in love with this place right away, with all its
splendour, where charm, refinement,
comfort and luxury service mix. |
