This September, the moment will finally arrive when Fritz & Felix will welcome its guests on a seven-day-a-week basis.
Fritz & Felix sees itself as a dining room, as a living room, as a work space, as a relaxing zone, as well as simply being a casual place to meet. Thus future guests will have the choice between the restaurant, the bar, an area with an open show kitchen and a terrace overlooking the picturesque park.
Connoisseurs can also look forward to the food concept for which the award-winning Swiss chef Nenad Mlinarevic acted as culinary consultant and which will be put into practice by head chef Sebastian Mattis. With the new Restaurant Manager Julius Hilger we found a great host, who after ten years of wandering has returned to the Brenners.
Who are Fritz & Felix?
The namesakes and ambassadors of the new gourmet location are a red fox and a hare called Fritz and Felix. They are two fictional characters from the heart of the Black Forest created to tell the story of the new modern restaurant. The fox, a freethinker with a cunning, mysterious character, symbolises the secretive and mystical aspects while the hare stands for vibrancy and curiosity. This dissimilar pair represent not only the Black Forest but also the relationship between apparent opposites being once again brought to life in the new catering area.
“For us it’s all about having an exciting restaurant experience; one that has not existed before in this form in Baden-Baden and one that should remain in the minds of diners,” stressed Nenad Mlinarevic. “The interior as well as the cuisine should be tasteful and cosmopolitan; simple but at the same time mixed with a touch of sophistication.”
Fritz and Felix are, however, much more than just namesakes and humorous chums featured in the logo of the new location. In an amusing and informative way, the two dissimilar friends will also tell the story behind the new food and drink concept in Brenners Park-Hotel & Spa – in the form of an entertaining, illustrated fable. Guests can therefore not only look forward to a totally new culinary experience, but also to delightful tales full of amusing quibbles, adventures, insights and shared wisdom.
Culinary pleasure can after all also nourish the mind in a wondrous way.
The restaurant Wintergarten is flooded with natural light all year round, with floor to ceiling windows opening onto the park terrace, with views over the River Oos that runs through our gardens and onto the famous Lichtentaler Allee. In the summer months the terrace is open and our grand piano is moved outside for evening concerts to accompany elegant dining. Throughout the year piano music drifts through from the adjacent Oleander Bar. The menu changes daily with seasonal ingredients and the availability of local produce such as Black Forest trout and golden chanterelles.
A Swiss citizen in Baden-Baden
Joël Ellenberger from Nürensdorf near Zurich is responsible for the Wintergarten's kitchen under the leadership of our long-standing kitchen director Rudolf Pellkofer.
The 23-year-old was and is passionately and enthusiastically involved in shaping the gastronomic concept of the all-day restaurant. In close cooperation with Sascha Doeur as deputy and a young international team, he works every day to further develop the restaurant, which has been established in the region for many years.
The young chef is enthusiastic about a product-oriented cuisine that scores points with exquisite regional products. What it is all about: a light, contemporary, French-style cuisine and a reinterpretation of the classics. The newly designed Wintergarten menu bears his unmistakable signature.
This beautiful restaurant was designed to blend seamlessly into the surrounding park. Step across to the left bank of the River Oos that runs through our gardens, to enjoy a culinary voyage around the Mediterranean. Our chef's menu features king prawns from the South of France to a light meze from North Africa and refined olive oils. The floor to ceiling glass walls embrace the natural setting, light streams through and diners have enchanting views through the leafy trees over Lichtentaler Allee. In the summer months the terrace opens to become a hive of activity.
