The Bristol in Salzburg – a place of history
This Salzburg cultural site has been very specially renovated in such a way that it has managed to retain its absolute exclusivity and luxury standard while at the same time has lost none of the flair that makes this historic place so unique.
The foundation stone of the present Hotel Bristol was laid by Archbishop Paris Lodron in 1619. In the following centuries, the building served as the seat of various noble families. It has been repeatedly extended and remodelled before being given its present form in the late 19th century.
In 1892, the city of Salzburg, into whose possession the property was passed in the meantime, opened the first hotel to be equipped with electricity within the city of Mozart, the so-called "Electric Hotel", whereby the electrical system of the hotel also supplied a large part of the right-hand centre of the old quarter.
The term "Hôtel Bristol" dates from the year 1903. The worldwide well-known hotel name "Bristol" goes back to the British city of Bristol, where travellers were first provided with accommodation for a fee.
Around 75 years ago, the hotel came into the possession of the Hübner family, to which it belongs to this day, now managed by the third generation, one of the few private hotels in Salzburg under personal management.

5-star comfort at the heart of Salzburg
The Hotel Bristol is situated in the heart of the city of Mozart, right next to the Mirabell Gardens, opposite Mozart's residence, next to the National Theatre and just 5 minutes walk from the convention centre.
Walking through the beautiful Mirabell Gardens, the famous spa centre Paracelsus Bath & Spa is just a few minutes away.
Parking is available in front of the hotel as well as in a 24-hour guarded parking garage nearby.
Next to the hotel are the picturesque Mirabell Gardens of the Mirabell Palace. Built in 1606m the palace, which was previously called "Altenau", was sumptuously rebuilt in 1721-1727 and combined to form a closed structure. Various masters have given the palace its present appearance. One of the special treasures include among others the Marble Hall and the elaborately decorated staircase with balustrade and sculptures that are among the most beautiful baroque creations in Europe.
Opposite the hotel is the residence of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. The house was known as the "Tanzmeisterhaus" in the 18th century. Here dance classes were held for the nobility, preparing the young nobles for court life. The former dancing master Franz Gottlieb Speckner was the best man at W.A. Mozart's parents’ wedding in1747. When F.G. Speckner died in 1767 and the heiress was open to the letting of the premises, the Mozart family took the opportunity to move to this bigger apartment in 1773. Mozart lived here until his move to Vienna in 1781. Today the house and its various exhibitions can be viewed.Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart – the most famous son of Salzburg
Ever since the 18th century, performances have been held in the neighbouring Landestheater. In addition to numerous classical pieces, modern works with high contemporary relevance are on the program. Also during the Salzburg Festival, the Landestheater opens its doors to 1000 people to enjoy the spectacle performances. The Landestheater has its own theatre, opera and dance ensemble. The Mozarteum Orchestra Salzburg serves as the resident orchestra.
It is impossible to get to know Salzburg in one day, as everyone will appreciate from the wide range of sights to be appreciated. Of course, a visit to the Getreidegasse with Mozart's birthplace, the Hohensalzburg Fortress or Hellbrunn Palace with its famous trick fountains are among the most famous local attractions. But Salzburg has so much more to offer – also in terms of art and culture.
