ABOUT THE REGION

View of beach in Huelva Region - Spain

Huelva is a mining and fishing province that is full of tourist attractions, many of which are unknown to the public. Huelva is known for its many attractive, white sandy beaches lined with pine trees such as Punta Umbría, Matalascañas, Mazagón, Nuevo Portil, Islantilla. The Doñana National Park in Huelva is the most important nature reserve in Spain and possibly in Europe. With over 500,000 hectares the park’s greatest characteristics are its diverse environment and ecological richness, such as sand dunes, marshland, beaches, rivers, lagoons, sea beds and estuaries.

Also Huelva is full of history. The discovery of the Americas was initiated by the monastery of La Rabida in Huelva. Palos de la Frontera is considered to be the Cuna del Descrubrimiento (birthplace of the discovery) from where the three discovery ships set sail towards the new world on 3 August 1492.
