THE SIERRA NORTE NATURAL PARK |
|
|
The Sierra Norte Natural Park occupies a total area of 164.840 hectares and covers the section of the Sierra Morena range within the province of Seville between the boundaries of Badajoz, Huelva and Cordoba. This area has the highest rainfall of the province, which allows the growth of "gallery meadows" with species of flora and fauna of vital importance. The area was already inhabited in the time of the Iberians and its mining tradition began with the Romans. Although at one time abundant, today we find some species in certain parts of the Park only. Such is the case of the Golden Eagle the black vulture and the black stork, the lynx, genet, badger, otter, and some wolves. Other animals found in the park include deer and wild boar, trout, pike, carp, bream and barbel, salamander, newts and bats. |
