Castillo El Collado was built
in the beginning of the century, it belonged to a gentleman who was
responsible for a facial soap factory. After his death, following his
will, the house was passed to the church. Years later, the present owner,
Javier, bought it from the church to convert it into a small hotel.
Surely he had a very definite idea of what he wanted to do, because he
spent 10 years refurbishing and decorating the place. The hotel opened
in 1996. Javier is always there, usually you find him at the front desk
welcoming his guests. The hotel is pretty busy, usually full, which is
not a wonder once you see and stay in one of the rooms and dine in the
restaurant. Each room is different; they go by names and are truly
beautiful in every detail. The one at the top (second level) called Amor
y Locura, which literally translated means “love ad madness” has the
bathtub right behind the headboard of a king bed! Their gastronomy seems
to be of importance as well, gourmet groups come here to try the
restaurant. Javier specially recommends: Red peppers stuffed with fish,
in a tomato-pepper sauce. And for dessert, a cream filled puffed pastry
with cinnamon - orange perfume. The wine: Red: Vintage Santa Maria Lopez
- Solar Viejo 1996 or if you prefer white: Marques de Riscal 1998. |
