Montpellier is at
the heart of a region that has an outstanding natural wealth and historical heritage. From the Camargue to the Cévennes, the ancient Pont du Gard to the proud citadel of Carcassonne, everything is here, nature, discovery and a change of scenery.
Today Montpellier is a bustling metropolis, one of southern France's
fastest-growing cities, thanks to an influx of new immigrants. Except
for some dreary suburbs, the city has a handsomely laid-out core, with
tree-flanked promenades, broad avenues, and historic monuments. Students
are about a quarter of the population, giving the city a lively,
animated aura.
And
don’t forget the sea, the lagoons and the miles of relaxing, sun-drenched beaches. Montpellier is also at the heart of one of the world’s oldest and
largest vineyards. Its great appellations are well worth a visit.
