The history of Château de
Candie dates back to the 14th century when it was built as a fortress by
Knights returning from the Crusades. This 14th century fortified house,
built in the form of a square, has been witness to many eras in the
history of France. Château de Candie now serves as a superb hotel which
offers a high standard of comfort to its guests it a fine Savoyard
architecture undiminished by the years.
It is a connoisseur’s paradise,
filled with priceless antiques and collections of paintings. The
interiors are classic in their design, featuring wood panelling. To
visit here is to stay in a magnificent private mansion with echoes of
each past generation. Statues lurk in corridors, intriguing bibelots are
on display. The bedrooms and suites are named after historical
personalities and furnished accordingly.
The kitchen is in hands of Chef Boris Campanella who, having trained a
lot of gastronomic restaurants in France has returned home to Chambéry,
where his presentation and innovative cooking of Savoyan dishes excite
the most discerning guests.
Château de Candie is surrounded by 15 acres of landscaped grounds dense
with foliage, ornamental ponds, fountains and lakes, set in a
mountainous area; yet it is only five minutes from the town of Chambéry
and close to the city of Grenoble. Visitors are welcomed as personal
guests by the owner who will make them discover all the treasures of
