Chateau de Canisy has been in
the same family ever since its creation in the twelve century. Today is
owned and managed by Comte Denis de Kergorlay, who being the oldest male
in the family, inherited from his father according to the aristocratic
tradition. Comte Denis was the first to decide opening the chateau as a
private chateau receiving guests. But not as a chateau-hotel nor the
typical “château privé”. It all started with “Les amis de Canisy,” an
association Denis formed because there were so many friends who liked
coming to Canisy for the weekends (frequently more than 30 at a time),
that he decided to ask for contributions for the upkeep of the chateau.
He invested all the funds in refurbishing the rooms. Chateau de Canisy
is absolutely magnificent, even pictures are not enough to describe it.
Each room is different and there are no set prices. At Chateau de Canisy
one can enjoy the splendor of the true “Vie de chateau” and feel at home.
They simply try to give you the best room available, subject to
availability. Because Denis runs the place in a very enchanting and
peculiar way and they are very seldom full, almost on purpose. I guess
he does not want to be mistaken for a hotel by any standards!. |
