Chateau de la Ballue is set on
the border between Normandy & Brittany, 20 Kms. south of Mont-Saint-Michel,
in a uniquely preserved agricultural landscape of rolling hills, forests
and wild, unspoilt coastal scenery. Chateau de la Ballue, a 17th Century castle
is most famous for its gardens. It is an historic house in tune with
today's tastes, a retreat for many artists and writers. It is a glorious
base from which to enjoy this unspoiled region's countryside and coast
with charming towns such as Dinan, Dinard, Cancale, Combourg, Fougères
and Saint-Malo.
The remarkable Chateau de la Ballue's mannerist gardens, listed
historical monument, with pillars of yew, topiary twists and swirls and
a labyrinth are agremented with sculptures carefully placed throughout
the grounds.
The large and beautifully appointed bedrooms and the suite, all
with canopy beds and private en-suite bathrooms are individually themed
in period styles and furnished with elegant antiques and artworks.
Inside, the golden granite staircase, the drawing rooms have preserved
the Italian Renaissance atmosphere.
The gardening know-how at its best, the sense of architecture and the
refinement of the decor make it a magic place. The best French-style art
of living. |
