The history of its restoration by the Hue family. This elegant 19th century building falls into disrepair after a succession of owners. It owes its restoration to the determination of the Hue family.
In 1986, Xavier and Colette HUE, buy agricultural lands that surround the castle. The 1999 storm significantly damaged the roof and endangered it. They decide to embark on a vast restoration operation combining authenticity and modernity. After four years of work, the HUE family inaugurates this charming hotel. Directed by Stéphane Hue, Chateau Grattequina offers 10 elegant rooms in a peaceful setting. The novelty in the castle: the star Grattequina can reach the center of Bordeaux by the river and appreciates the privileged position of the castle in the Garonne.
A locality formed from the island of Blanquefort, the name of Grattequina is mentioned in the 1806 cadastre and Gratte Qui N'a writes on the map of 1843. This name comes from the argillaceous tendency of his land, accused Aluvión del rio . So, it was necessary to scrape the soil to cultivate it. In the nineteenth century, the development of river navigation requires the development of the Garonne to obtain a single, wider and deeper channel. The island of Grattequina joins the coast in 1860.
Frédéric Gièse, a Bordeaux merchant, becomes the owner of the new land between the island and the left bank of the Garonne. In 1869, he appealed to Louis Michel Garros, architect of Bordeaux, to build a sumptuous house on the ancient island of Grattequina.
Built in 1872, the castle is surrounded by vineyards at the gates of Bordeaux on the way to the Médoc. Frédéric Gièse shows his success with the prestige of this house.
The architecture of Grattequina is characterized by a solid base to demonstrate the prestige of its owner, protect the house from floods and organize the service on land.
The bedrock is then dedicated to domestic life. The ground floor, surrounded by terraces, serves the life of the chatelain: large living room, dining room, office, library. Both floors have ten rooms for families and guests.
