Palma is a cosmopolitan
and friendly city. Long overlooked, Palma is
now becoming a hot destination in its own right. With a costly restoration
programme in the old city over the last five years, Palma gets better each
time. Chic boutiques, avant-garde art galleries, modernist architecture,
and harbour with mega-yachts, leafy promenades, pavement cafes, tapas bars,
excellent restaurants and buzzing nightlife. And best of all, Palma is small
enough to explore on foot. Easy access, makes it perfect for a weekend away.
The Bay of Palma offers the tourists wonderful beaches of
sand in its surroundings. It has an extensive choice of facilities to have fun
and enjoy yourself : Restaurants, golf, shops... This turns this area in a very
active place during the summer. Palma also has a wealth of historical and cultural places to see,
many important sights such as the Cathedral are close by.
Palma's magnificent Gothic cathedral dominates the waterfront. Its
foundations were laid in 1230 under the instruction of Jaime I and took 500
years to complete. Any visitors approaching Palma by sea cannot help but be
impressed, even astonished, by the graceful Gothic cathedral as it gradually
emerges into view.
