ABOUT TURIN |
|
Turin was founded 2300 years ago
by the TAURINI Gauls, a Celtic tribe. Taurus is Latin for bull and still
today the bull is the symbol of the city. Turin is a forward-looking city, rich in material resources and cultural
heritage.
Capital of the Kingdom of Italy from 1861 to 1864, Turin’s industrial
development began in the late nineteenth century, and industry played an
important role in the city’s growth throughout the twentieth century.
Today Turin is multifaceted city: a financial and production hub and centre
for exchange and international meetings, it has still managed to retain its
hospitable dimensions and unique, unmistakeable atmosphere.
From above, Turin can be seen in all its essential rationality: straight
roads, long tree-lined avenues, wide squares and sunlit enclosed courtyards.
But the extraordinary presence of nature is also evident: four rivers, the
hill and an abundance of parks and gardens make this one of Europe’s
greenest cities.
