The Heritage Golf

The Heritage a 72, par Championship golf course, designed by Seve Ballesteros and Jeff Howes is set in the beautiful rolling countryside of County Laois , just one hour from Dublin, with the Slieve Bloom Mountains as a backdrop. This championship golf course provides the most enjoyable experience for golfers of all standards in Ireland.
Five lakes and a stream that meanders through the course brings water into play on 10 holes. 98 beautifully shaped bunkers and 7.000 trees adorn the landscape, which is very gently undulating without any climbing involved.
A variety of tees allow the course to be played from 5.747 to 7.319 yards.
All of the above components guarantee a majestic golfing day at the resort, which will be crowned by a most enjoyable après golf experience in The Clubhouse.
The Heritage Golf & Spa Resort has been selected by Golf World Magazine in June 2005 as one of the best new golf courses in Great Britain and Ireland.

The Games of Bowls

Historians believe that the game of Bowls was developed by the Egyptians. One of their pastimes was to play skittles with round stones. This has been determined based on artifacts found in tombs dating circa 5.000 B.C. The sport spread across the world and took on a variety of forms, Bocce (Italian), Bolla (Saxon), Bolle (Danish), Boules (French) and Ula Miaka (Polynesian).
The oldest Bowls green still played on is in Southampton, England where records show that the green has been in operation since 1299 A.D. There are other claims of greens being in use before that time, but these are, as yet, unsubstantiated.
The Heritage boasts the only indoor Bowls Stadium in the Republic of Ireland. Consisting of eight rinks the Bowls Stadium which is a Championship standard.

Weddings

County Laois, also spelt Laoighis or Leix. It is central Republic of Ireland. The county seat is Port Laoise. A part of the central plain of Ireland, County Laois is generally level, except for the Slieve Bloom Mts. in the northwest, which is the site of several forestry plantations. The Barrow and the Nore are the chief rivers. Agriculture (wheat, barley, and sugar beets) and dairy farming are the main occupations. Industries include woolens, woodworking, and pharmaceuticals.
Created in 1556 by Mary I of England as Queen's County, Laois received its present Irish language name following the Irish War of Independence. Portlaoise (previously Maryborough) is the county town.
