Paseo de la Castellana, where the hotel is located, is Madrid's grandest avenue, linking Plaza
de Colón and Plaza de Castilla and adjacent to Plaza
España. It runs roughly North-South and takes
you right from the outskirts of Madrid to the
heart of the city. Although it serves as a
highway, with traffic racing by at speeds far
exceeding the limits, it was designed in such a
way that also pedestrians can enjoy the many
things to be seen, thanks to green strips of
trees. The Castellana was built in the 18th
century, and was initially surrounded by
aristrocratic mansions, and considered a posh
area. Now, apart from being a fast way of
entering or exiting the city, it is also an area
with monuments, squares, modern architecture,
sculptures, bars to enjoy the city life pass by,
and much more.
The ancient aristocratic mansions are interspersed
with headquarters of international and national banks, and skyscrapers,
including Madrid’s tallest building, the Torre Picasso. The ABC building
is decorated in colorful ceramic tiles, while the Palacio de Congresos,
has murals designed by Miró.
This location is
also one mile from Retiro Park , a mile and a
half from the Royal Palace, three miles from the
Congress Hall, 19 miles from El Escorial.
On October 12 every year, the Spanish
military parade marches by.
