The pinnacle of quality, style, and cordiality

There are still places on our planet where the tradition of genuine hospitality is very much alive. Where you can expect to be pampered in an exclusive ambience with 5-star comfort. Where you can arrive and be yourself in every respect. A warm welcome to Suvretta House.

Why Suvretta House?

For over 100 years, Suvretta House has fascinated its guests with a blend of rare and very unique benefits – among them the exceptional location, the breathtaking views of the Upper Engadine, the peerless infrastructure, and the heartwarming hospitality.

5-star comfort at a privileged location

Like a fairy-tale castle, our hotel is located in the magnificent Alpine landscape of the Upper Engadine. The peaks of majestic mountains rise to the sky in every direction. The lakes on the valley floor glisten in the light, deep blue in the summer, locked in ice during the winter. And you can experience our 5-star comfort in this unique setting.

Unique location

Suvretta House is nestled in a natural park landscape in the midst of the Suvretta-Corviglia winter sports and hiking region, merely 2 kilometres west of St. Moritz. The peace and quiet is disrupted neither by traffic nor by hustle and bustle. A free shuttle bus service is available for trips into town. Our private ski lift adjacent to the hotel whisks winter sports enthusiasts directly to the base station of the Suvretta chairlift.

Suvretta culture – a touch of «Merry Old England»

Going with the times does not rule out nurturing traditions. Thus, to this very day, gentlemen wear dark suits and ties when dining in our Grand Restaurant, while boys wear jackets and ties.

Shopping right in the hotel

Guests considering a smaller or larger shopping spree don’t need to leave Suvretta House: Our three boutiques – Agnona, Ermenegildo Zegna and the Saxer ski shop – will cater to fashionistas. And “il regalino”, our gift shop, stocks a large selection of little everyday items as well as presents for family members and friends at home.

A paradise for children

Suvretta House extends a cordial welcome to families with children. At the Kiddy Club, the little ones can frolic to their hearts’ delight under the supervision of trained kindergarten teachers, play with other children, or try their hand at arts and crafts. And with the Teddy Club, they even have their own restaurant.

Where hospitality has been the tradition for over 100 years – the history of Suvretta House

The cornerstone was laid on 22 April 1911, and within roughly one and a half years, a grand hotel with a view of Champfèr and Lake Silvaplana was erected on the Chasellas plateau not far from St. Moritz.

The hotel was festively inaugurated on 16 December 1912. Bon’s dream had come true. Right on time for the opening celebration, snow transformed Suvretta House into a storybook castle in the midst of spellbinding winter landscape. But the guests were also excited about the infrastructure. It spanned no fewer than 250 rooms, 370 beds, and 110 bathrooms – unthinkably luxurious in those days – rooms for bridge and billiards, for smokers and tea enthusiasts, a library, a music salon, and several generously designed, elegantly decorated and interconnected banquet and dining rooms.

Guests arrived from all over the world to delight in the Suvretta House experience and simply enjoy life to the fullest. In the course of the decades, the exclusive hotel hosted many celebrities from the arts, the movie industry, politics, and business. King Farouk of Egypt, Crown Prince Akihito, the Shah of Persia, Gregory Peck, Evita Perón and many more came to enjoy sports and fun on snow and ice, ecstatic ballroom parties, the amicable atmosphere, luxury and discretion – characteristic hallmarks upheld by Suvretta House to this very day.

Seven generations of hoteliers guided Suvretta House through its history across more than one hundred years and each one left its very own and personal mark on the hotel. As the expectations of discerning guests from all over the world changed, the hotel underwent several renewal phases in recent years. Some noteworthy milestones include the integration of a wellness paradise, the creation of the banqueting ensemble, the construction of a spacious ski room, and the total renovation of the guest rooms.

«The 6-o’clocker» champagne cocktail

This special cocktail was named after the large Suvretta clock in the hotel lobby. During the renovation work on the guest lift in 1993, the hotel architect had an unusual idea: He instructed a local carpenter to leverage his best artisanal skills and build a clock expressly for Suvretta House. And what was special about it? It has only one hand! Because the hand advances from “6 to 6” twice a day, the then barkeeper spontaneously created the “6-o’clocker”: Vodka, Martini vermouth, a shot of cassis liqueur plus some premium champagne – cheers!
