Our Story

This historical residence, belonging to the powerful and princely Roman family of the Borghese family, dates back to the middle of the 16th century. Since the very beginning of the seventeenth century and for a long period it was called The house annexed to the Borghese Palace that the princes used to rent. Subsequently, in 1841 at the request of Princess Adelaide the building was entrusted to the French nuns Daughters of the Cross and they founded, the First School for Poor Girls. Princess Adelaide wished to create an institution for less fortunate girls, where they could receive an education that would equip them for a more positive future.

Later, between 1897 and 1916, during the 15 years of ownership and management of Princess Anna Maria De Ferrari Borghese, wife of Scipione Borghese, the building was renovated along with the other homes annexed to the Palace to create a comfortable residential quarters for the sisters and transformed the additional space into a school and kindergarten. On May 13th 1938 the school was donated to the French nuns, who remained the sole owners until few years ago.

The Vilòn universe set in the heart of Rome, in a former 16th century building, hides within its ancient, fully refurbished walls, 18 precious gems. • San Peter's Basilica and Vatican Museum
    30 minutes

Always worth it, even if only for a flying Sistine Chapel visit. Vatican's secret, Raphael Rooms, the Belvedere Courtyard. St Peter's Basilica, Michelangelo's Pietà, the Bernini Baldachin... wear your most comfortable shoes!

Adelaide

In honour of the Princess Borghese, the name of our restaurant and bar lounge, familiarly called In Salotto. A tribute to the altruism and grace of Italian hospitality with the wish that the same energy will continue to live among the refined environments of the Vilòn.

Adelaide offers a delicious menu of Mediterranean cuisine, which changes according to the seasons, with classics of the Roman tradition with fresh modern twists.

In addition to the stylish and cosy dining room, the green outdoor patio dedicates a relaxing bohemian space where, especially during the warm seasons, is possible to enjoy breakfast, lunch, dinner and drinks "al fresco". Buon Appetito!
