Freudenstadt is 91 kilometers (57 miles) north of Freiburg and 22 kilometers (14 miles) southwest of Altensteig. This Black Forest resort town covers 87,59 square kilometers with a population of over 30,000 residents. It is the second largest city in the county with hundreds of villas pushing up the neighboring slopes. The city of Freudenstadt was originally built during the early 17th century as a model city by Prince Frederick I of Wurttemberg. It was used to house the workers of the early silver mines and also the refugees of religious prosecution from what is now Austrian Corinthia. |
