Hotel Sacher Wien was opened in
1876 by Eduard Sacher, son of the creator of the Original
Sacher-Torte, and soon achieved worldwide renown as a meeting place
for the nobility as well as for prominent politicians and artists.
Today the Hotel Sacher is a Viennese institution, comparable to St.
Stephan’s Cathedral or the Vienna Boys’ Choir. The Hotel’s long
history can be felt in every room, where modern comfort is ideally
combined with the charm of the Habsburg monarchy. Privately run by
the families Guertler and Winkler (daughter Alexandra married in
spring 2005), the Hotel is located next to the pedestrian zone
Kaerntner Straße in the heart of the city, directly across from the
Vienna State Opera and just a short walk away from the elegant
Ringstraße, St.Stephan’s Cathedral, and the Hofburg Imperial Palace.
In
June 2004 a large-scale modernisation and extension project was
started. For the first phase of refurbishment the hotel was, for the
first time in its history, closed completely for a few weeks. As
part of the second phase of construction, which lasted until the end
of October 2005, the hotel was enlarged by two additional roof
floors which will offer a unique view over the whole city and boast
42 new rooms, a 300-square metre/3229 square feet spa centre and a
business area.
With
the two new top floors (floors 6 and 7) we are now able to offer 42
additional “Sacher light” rooms. Designed by interior designer
Pierre Yves Rochon and in cooperation with Mrs. Elisabeth Guertler,
these new rooms have a splendid view of the city. Special attention
has been paid to providing maximum comfort and the latest in
technical equipment: all rooms feature wireless LAN, a Dolby
Surround system, roof terraces, marble bathrooms with separate
shower and toilet (some also have a bidet) as well as two
washbasins, under-floor heating, illuminated vanity mirrors and
plasma TV.
But the 110 “old” rooms which are located on floors 1 to 4 are
beautifully equipped too – elegant furniture, choice antiques and
fine fabrics create a warm and luxurious atmosphere. Moreover,
beautiful paintings and other decorative pieces of art give each
room its own unique character and style.
Rooms are also available that are exclusively reserved for
non-smokers. |
