Architecture
Barcelona is synonymous with the visionary architect Antoni Gaudi. It’s here that you can discover his most important works, including Casa Batlló and Casa Milà in L’Eixample, or his ‘melting’ cathedral Sagrada Familia. But don’t miss less famous but equally impressive works by other modernista architects, such as Domènech i Montaner’s spectacular Palau de la Música Catalana.

Galleries and museums
Barcelona is justly proud of its artistic and cultural heritage, and the best way to explore it for yourself is to visit some of city’s many world-class museums and galleries. Two unmissable highlights include the Museu Picasso and the Fundació Joan Miró, or come to MACBA for the best in contemporary art.

Food and dining
No trip to Barcelona would be complete without discovering the city’s exceptional cuisine. Try bite-sized local delicacies in a traditional tapas bar or sample delicious jamon serrano at the bustling La Boqueria market. Or why not experience contemporary Catalan dining at its finest in one of the city’s many Michelin-star restaurants.

Exploring
Barcelona is a city made for wandering and watching the world go by. Take a stroll up La Rambla and immerse yourself in the sights and sounds of one of the world’s most vibrant boulevards. Discover Gothic churches and Roman remains in the winding alleyways of the Barri Gòtic. Escape the city by catching the funicular up to leafy Montjuïic, or marvel at the views and mosaics in Park Güell, another Gaudi masterpiece. Always popular in summer, Barcelona’s beaches are right on your doorstep.

Shopping
The area around Rambla Catalunya, Passeig de Gràcia and Avinguda Diagonal is a magnet for lovers of high-end, exclusive shopping, hosting some of the biggest names in fashion and design. Other famous shopping districts include El Born, full of independent boutiques and quirky designer labels.

Music and nightlife
Classical concerts, jazz sessions, rock gigs, theatre, cinema, nightclubs - whatever your idea of the perfect night out, you’ll find it in Barcelona. Catch an opera at the magnificently opulent Gran Teatre del Liceu, or dance the night away at one of the many clubs in the city, hosting everything from DJs to live music events. In Barcelona, the party never stops.
