Next to the Ancient Art Museum
in the beautiful Rua das Janelas Verdes is a small palace dating from
the end of the 18th century which is also called Hotel As Janelas Verdes
(Green Windows).
The house, like the street of the same name, deserves to be discovered
slowly, little by little, all the time savouring its gentle, romantic,
welcoming atmosphere.
Eça de Queirós, the famous Portuguese novelist, is connected to the
hotel by tradition and there are those who say that he lived and found
inspiration here in this palace for another magical home - "O Ramalhete"
in his novel "Os Maias".
The memory of his presence is still very much alive in the atmosphere we
find ourselves immersed in: small objets d'art, books, paintings and
mementoes take us back to another era now being relived. The rooms are
sunny and cheerful. The Tagus is close by. One feels good here…
When Spring arrives, the days begin with a wonderful breakfast served in
the garden while you breathe in the calm of an older Lisbon where it
still feels good to feel love. |
