Guijo (for
short) is set on a privileged location on the foothills
of the Sierra de Gredos. The town itself is 930 m above
sea level - the sierra has peaks of over 2,500m. The
sierra shelters Guijo and the valley below from harsh
weather coming in from the North, providing an
extremelly mild climate. Thus crops likely to be found
in warmer areas are common - raspberries, kiwifruit,
tobacco... The mountains offer refreshing springs for
bathing and incredible hikes and walking routes. The
region where Guijo is located is referred to as "La
Vera".
The "Jaranda"
spring forms a deep gorge as it flows past Guijo. Spots
like this are good for a refreshing swim on the summer
months on the way to the peaks of the sierra. |
