Avda. Los Tilos s/n 22440 Benasque − Spain
The Ciria family combines a passion for mountains with an extensive hospitality experience. Good connoisseurs of the Valley, the two brothers José María and Dioni are experienced hunters and fishermen, and the game they hunt and fish can be found on the menu. They also collect a large variety of mushrooms, berries and herbs to season their menu and to produce a sloe gin called "Pacharán"
Being good mountaineers, they can design specific treks, advising guests on the most desirable places to visit -some of which quite unknown-, the slopes where the best mushrooms can be collected or visits to the Romanesque architecture in the area. Talking to them about the Pyrenees makes a good after dinner or après-ski.
With more than three decades of experience, the Ciria family runs this hotel surrounded by the highest summits of the Pyrenees that combines the traditional mountain hotel experience with the functionality of its privileged location in the middle of Benasque
Family-friendly, peaceful and cosy, the Hotel is an example of architecture from Altoaragón and preserves its wooden beams and stone walls, typical materials of the Valle de Benasque. The fireplace, nestled in a granite dome and surrounded by a wooden "cadiera" (long wooden bench), creates a unique environment to hold lively discussions in the warmth of the fire.
Our cosy, tastefully decorated rooms guarantee your best sleeping comfort. They all offer fantastic views of the town and mountains. Various rates are available to fit the needs of all kind of travellers.
The distinguishing mark of the Hotel is within the kitchen stoves. Dionisio Ciria, chef at the restaurant, delights the most discerning palates with his menus, and is renowned for his ability to surprise the guests by using ingredients that the family themselves hunt and fish. As a result the menu features the healthiest meat, local berries, and traditional cuisine.
Hotel Ciria offers personal assistance in booking excursions to the Parque Natural Posets-Maladeta, hill walking, or any of the wide range of activities that the stunning surroundings can offer. Skiing, mountain biking or climbing will make your visit an experience you will want to repeat.
Hotel Ciria offers all the comfort for travellers to live a unique experience at the heart of the Pyrenees
The "fogaril" (log fire) is a unique place to drink something or chat.
Located under a granite dome, and surrounded by a handcrafted wooden "cadiera" (wooden bench), lies the heart of Hotel Ciria. The "fogaril". By the side of this typical log fire one can hold lively discussions. An ideal place to drink "Pacharán" (sloe gin), try the "cecina" (cured sliced beef) prepared by Dioni Ciria or just to relax by the heart warming fire.

The Valley of Benasque (Bal de Benás/Ball de Benás in Aragonian language) also called the Hidden Valley, is located near the source of the River Ésera, in the ancient county of Ribagorza, in Huesca.
Locals speak "patois", a transition dialect between Aragonese, Catalan and Gascon also called Benasqués or Altorribagorzano. The area offers a range of natural breathtaking landscapes due to the steep slopes and a varied topography and lithography. The highest peaks are permanently covered in snow, and between 1,400 and 2,300 meters above sea level, lie the forests of beech, fir and pines. Below lie the mixed forests, Scots pine and oak with boxwood.
The Natural Park Posets-Maladeta is home to protected species like the bearded vulture or the capercaillie and other animals like chamois, wild boar, squirrels and foxes. Sport lovers will be at their best: mountaineering, hiking, climbing, canyoning, rafting, canoeing, paragliding, golf, fishing, horse riding, mountain biking ... Visitors will always find an activity to suit their hobbies and physical condition.
After all this activity, nothing beats a bath at the health resort Baños de Benasque. And, if you are into it, nightclubs offer an open and nice ambience to enjoy your nights in the Pyrenees. Villages around Benasque, their people, streets, history and architecture are also worth visiting. Their traditional houses, built with local materials, contain centuries of history and shape a typical Pyrenean landscape.
Benasque's Reserva Nacional de Caza (National Hunting Reserve) includes the municipalities of Benasque and Sahún
The conserved habitats of the Valley favour a diversity of game including species such as chamois, roe deer, wild boar, partridge, hare, rabbit and quail, and make it an ideal place for hunting.
Benasque's Reserva Nacional de Caza (Hunting National Reserve), was established in 1966 and covers up to 30,000 hectares, while the local hunting ground covers 3,000. In order to hunt in these areas, the Community of Aragon requires, besides the license, a specific permit that the Hotel Ciria is able to process, upon request.
The good quality of water at the Pyrenees makes trout fishing one of its main attractions
If you enjoy fishing, you will find native trouts in the headwaters of the River Esera. Due to the high quality of water, it hasn't been necessary to restock.
The Ciria brothers advise their guests, recommend the best areas and personally manage the permits for this sport. Keep in mind that, in order to fish in the inland waters of Aragon, you must have a license issued by the Aragon Institute of Environmental Management (INAGA). In some fishing grounds, a specific permit is required. Both documents can be processed from the hotel within a minimum of two working days in advance".
One of the main attractions of the Valle de Benasque is the ski resort in Cerler, featuring some of the steepest slopes of the Pyrenees. Within the grounds, visitors will find all the amenities to enjoy snow sports: ski & snowboard rentals, ski school, restaurants, day care... In summer the resort also offers activities such as scenic chairlift rides and downhill biking.
Besides alpine skiing, nordic skiing is available in Los Llanos del Hospital. Located 13 kilometres north of Benasque, this resort has 30 kilometres of skiing slopes spread over three split circuits that start from 1,750 meters and go up to 1,940 meters. Its location in the heart of the Parque Natural Posets-Maladeta guarantees snow quality throughout the winter.
Winter possibilities in Benasque also include cross-country skiing, snowmobiling, snowshoeing routes, dog sledding rides or hill walking for the whole family to enjoy.
Natural Park Posets-Maladeta was declared in 1994 to protect natural values, flora, fauna and geomorphological formations of this 30,000 hectares area. Despite global warming, within this protected area still survive 13 of the largest glaciers in the Pyrenees, among which the glacier of Aneto (about 75 hectares) and Maladeta.
Scattered through the Valley there are over 95 "ibones" (glacial lakes). Cregüeña is the largest one, but perhaps the most beautiful are Gorgutes -close to the French border- or Batisiellles.
Moreover, the Parque Natural Posets-Maladeta has the highest concentration of peaks above 3,000 meters in the Pyrenees and eight of the ten highest mountains in the range, two of which are the highest: Aneto (3,404 meters) and Posets ( 3375).
These three thousands are grouped in three main massifs:
In the Valley you will find activities for all seasons such as classic mountaineering, skiing, mountain climbing, canyoning, via ferrata or snowshoeing, among many others. Mountain refuges are another big appeal for visitors: Angel Orús in the valley of Eriste, Estós in the valley of the same name, Renclusa, on the north side of Maladetas, and Biadós, in the adjacent valley of Chistau.
Benasque (Benás in patois) is a municipality in the province of Huesca located in the county of Ribagorza, in the centre of the Pyrenees. The town is the heart of the Valley and is known for its breathtaking scenery, as it is framed by the Parque Natural Posets-Maladeta.
The municipality covers 233'17 square km that include the picturesque spots of Anciles (Ansils) and Cerler (Sarllé), well known for its ski resort.
The village of Benasque offers beautiful streets and "plazas" to walk through, and some examples of mountain architecture, among which are:
With 30 years cooking experience, the chef Dioni Ciria serves the best Altoaragonese cuisine recipes, combining traditional flavours with the latest trends. Game dishes are not to be missed, but El Fogaril offers many other specialities such as grilled meats, the freshest vegetables and seasonal mushrooms. All recipes are made using the finest locally grown produce.
The highlights among the game dishes include loin of venison with truffle sauce and morels stuffed with foie gras, wild partridge stewed with onion, the venison steak served on red wine and blueberry jus or the crispy caramel stuffed with roe deer and local cheese with sweet and sour sauce and vegetable crudités.
Steak lovers will enjoy at El Fogaril the tastiest lamb, beef and ox in the Valley.
The chef also recommends asking for the legs of lamb Somontano style, the pork confit with potatoes and hazelnut praline with potatoes "panadera" style and apple compot or the lamb roasted in a wood burning oven.
An extensive wine list provides wines from Somontano, Ribera del Duero and Rioja, among others, and is complemented by cavas and champagnes.
And to finish your meal, nothing beats a homemade dessert like a Radiquero goat’s cheese flan or a citrus sorbet accompanied by homemade liqueurs or spirits.
At the cafeteria you can also try homemade tapas, a hot chocolate or a refreshing mojito.
