First and foremost Les Eyzies lies at the heart of an unspoilt area of great natural beauty with rolling hills, tranquil rivers and fascinating cliff and rock formations. It has some of the world’s most beautiful caves with outstanding stalagtite and stalagmite cristallisations. And the cave-lined Vézère valley has been classified as a heritage site by UNESCO.

Les Eyzies was twinned with Puente Viesgo in 1994. Situated close to Santander in Cantabria, Spain, this community possesses several decorated caves within its territory, the principal being Monte Castillo. The famous cave of Altamira is only a few kilometres away.
