Boscolo Exedra Roma

– ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆ –

In the splendid setting of Piazza della Repubblica, between the Baths of Diocletian and the Basilica of Saint Mary of the Angels designed by Michelangelo, rises the first 5 Star Luxury hotel in Rome, opened in 2003.

The Boscolo Exedra Roma is the result of an extraordinary and accurate refurbishment and modern planning of a sumptuous late 18th Century building. 238 rooms, 2 scenic restaurants, a panoramic terrace with views over Rome, an exclusive spa and an efficient Business Centre, suspended over ancient Roman excavations. A refined and discreet atmosphere surround the guests and involve them in an experience capable of satisfying the most demanding of desires.

History

For its majesty, welcome and history, the Boscolo Exedra exceeds the simple definition of a 5-Star Luxury Hotel.

The building, redesigned for the Boscolo by architect Maurizio Papiri and designer Adam D. Tihany, was built in the 19th Century, when Gaetano Koch constructed two twin buildings in the neoclassical style, one of which became the Boscolo Exedra today.

The name evokes memories of the old name of the square and has its origins in the grande esedra inside the spa area of Imperial Rome, on which today's Piazza della Repubblica was planned. In the hotel's basement area the remains of the important Diocletian Baths are on display (298-305 A.D.). The Basilica of Saint Mary of the Angels can be admired from the private surroundings of the impressive terrace.

In the ancient 16th Century granary of Pope Clementine some exceptional rooms have been created, retaining suggestive elements of old, mixed with modern comforts. Relax online in the silent cocoon created in all suites and rooms, take a swim surrounded by vestiges of the Imperial age in the Posh Bar pool, inspired by the meeting of water and air, the sky which covers the roofs of the Capital; every element of the Boscolo Exedra has something magic about it.

Art in the Hotel

The Boscolo Exedra tells the story of the "Thermae Diocletani", some of the most famous and elegant baths of the past, displaying the marvellous evidence from the excavation, such as the pool in the Diocletian Hall, the large tile mosaic floor in the foyer of the meeting area, or the octagonal fountain under the Michelangelo Hall.

The Clementine Wing, the result of a transformation of the thermal "calidrum" in the storehouses of the Roman grain stores, still has the original wooden trusses on show, expertly salvaged and restored.

Staying at the Boscolo Exedra is also an opportunity to admire an important element of modern art: Mario Sironi's (1885-1961) solemn draft of Geografia, the rigid posture of a sitting woman, almost as if on a throne, with the world at her feet as the central element of the composition.

Rome

Looking down on the Piazza della Repubblica from above, you can see the twin buildings, together with the entrance on Via Nazionale, which form a large chalice shape. Not by chance, it was here that the spring waters fed the Diocletian Baths, a start and end point for many roads. An Eternally romantic an lively metropolis, the home of the Roman Empire and a diamond of the baroque period, Rome has an incredible and unique place in the world.

To "live" Rome means a night-time stroll along the illuminated banks of the Tiber, during one event or another, or taking a visit to the Isola Tiberina, or in one of the historic restaurants in the Trastevere for a plate of "Giudia" artichokes. The marvels to visit are countless, which makes Rome a city with the largest number or artworks in the world, and for this reason, a World Heritige Site: from the Colossus at the Pantheon, to the Trevi Fountain, to the numerous museums and modern and ancient art galleries.

Monumental Beauty

Rome is a city rich with history and ancient monuments spread all over the Capital which are a constant reminder of its glorious past. Of course starting with the Colosseum, symbol of ancient Rome, where the spectators enjoyed Gladiator battles, to then reach the dome of the Pantheon, the Bernini Fountain in Piazza Navona, Piazza di Spagna with its famous steps and the Barcaccia Fountain, the obelisk in Piazza del Popolo, and the imposing Vittoriano of Porta Venezia. And who could forget the Trevi Fountain? The list of Rome's marvels is incredibly long, a great pretext for return visits to discover the architectural treasures of this magical city.

Artistic Heritage

The boundless number of works which celebrate the beauty of Rome's artistic heritage will leave you breathless. The city is an open-air museum in itself, containing masterworks by Raffaello, Caravaggio, Michelangelo and Leonardo, which are on display in many of the churches and museums of the Capital. Permanent collections are not to be missed in many of the museum, starting with the Vatican Museums, are considered to be some of the most beautiful museum complexes in the world. In the Capitolini Museums you will see the splendours of Imperial era. Do not miss the National Modern and Contemporary Art Gallery and the Galleria Borghese. Worth a visit are the Quirinale stables, the Exhibition Building and the Bramante Courtyard with its unmissable temporary exhibitions with an international feel.

Just like in a film

Rome is the first choice of many film directors. Thousands of films have been filmed on the roads of the Capital, from the recent Oscar-winner "The Great Beauty" directed by Paolo Sorrentino, to legendary films such as "Roman Holiday" and "La Dolce Vita". It's hard not to understand the cinematographers who chose the city, a quick trip across town on a Vespa, or even on foot, is enough to feel a part of something big. Walking around the city you will recognise enigmatic locations from "Angels and Demons", and breathe the epic atmosphere of "Gladiator". Romantics will recognise the backdrops which formed the scene for "To Rome with Love" by Woody Allen, whereas action-lovers won't want to miss spying the city through the eyes of Sam Mendes in the latest 007 movie, following the gaze of the of Aston Martin in James Bond's hands.

A garden in the city

The grand park of Villa Borghese is the green heart of the City of Rome. Loved by Romans, who adore passing their free time here, appreciated by tourists and art lovers, drawn by the Galleria Borghese in which some of the masterpieces by Bernini, Canova, Tiziano and Rubens can be admired. You will be immersed in a relaxing atmosphere by wondering the paths of the park. Rent a boat to read a book on the artificial lake, reward yourself with a pause in the Biopark and in May don't miss the Horse Race in Piazza di Siena, one of the most famous in the world and with an International flavour.

Shopping from another time

Walking around the marvellous roads in the centre of Rome, among the fascinating boutiques in Via Margutta, Via Giulia, Via dei Banchi Vecchi and Via dei Coronari, you can find extremely rare antique items. Some of the unmissable cult shopping locations in Rome are undoubtedly the Tridente are with its famous Via Condotti, Via Borgognona, Via Frattina and the entire area surrounding Piazza di Spagna, with famous Jewellers and Ateliers of the biggest Italian and International stylists dotted all over the quarter.

Dining in the dark/light ambience of the Roman Dolce Vita, among the light reflected through glass, or under the impressive white marble archways, opening out on to the ancient Piazza Esedra.
