Occasionally, in public areas, the
strains of light classical music may be followed by pop music of the
60's or 70's. Tchaikovsky in harmony with Edith Piaff, Von Suppe
followed by Buddy Holly or Fritz Kriesler. Ecletic is the word that
springs to mind, and that too describes the many pictures and
paintings that grace the walls. |

WHEN TO VISIT LA PREGHIERA |
| |
|
All
seasons are beautiful in Umbria though December, January and
February are cold and crisp and we need a rainy season to keep our
countryside green. Bright cold days, Umbrian golden colours in the
oak woods, the smell of log fires, fill the atmosphere which is
enriched by bright blue skies with passing fluffy cumolous clouds
and magical stars at night. Chestnuts and vino novello, reminiscing
story-telling of bygone times, mushrooms, truffles androast meats.
It's the time for slaughtering the pig and homemade salsicce (sausages,
prosciutto (ham), coppa (brawn), finishing with a celebratory dinner
with friends and neighbours.
Spring bursts with white hawthorn and yellow may, wild primrose and
wild violets, then poppies and wild strawberries, longer days
tempting country walks and exploring the ruins of ancient abbeys,
castles and towers, and their history. Easter festivals and fairs
begin in the local villages.
Summer
relaxation by the pool and warm leisurely outdoor evenings in the
garden or practicing sports. Evenings of music and dancing in the
villages. Classic and Jazz music festivals, open air events and lots
of local atmosphere to be enjoyed. The astronomical observatory at
Montone is well worth visiting. Long and lingering dining under the
stars and well into the night is a way of life here in the Upper
Tiber Valley.
Autumn is the season for truffle hunting, mushroom gathering,
chestnut picking. Celebrating the initiation of the new prosciutto
ham with home baked ciaccia (unlevened bread).
Local produce fairs abound to traditionally "stock up" for the
winter. The world famous Euro Chocolate festivals are not to be
missed. |
