The building was built in 1885 as the private residence of an aristocratic family. Early in the 20th century its garden was famed in Madrid for the plays that were staged there. It was restored in the 1990s to make it a luxury hotel. Throughout the process efforts were made to conserve the spirit of the building, recovering period furniture, high ceilings, balconies, bay windows and sloped ceilings, while at the same time furnishing it with 21st century facilities (WIFI, Smart led TV, whirlpool tubs). Among the works of art decorating the hotel there are period portraits of the latter kings of the Hapsburg dynasty and of the early Bourbon kings. The crown jewel is a picture of King Ferdinand VII painted by Vicente López, who has several pictures on display at the Prado Museum.
