THE GARDEN |
|
|
|
The astounding blues of sky and sea are
enhanced by the intense green of the Hotel’s
Mediterranean gardens, which blend naturally
with the building and its elaborate network
of pergolas spreading across the walls and
covered with climbing plants.
The scent of orange blossom accompanies the
wonderful views that can be enjoyed from the
guests’ rooms. The design of the exterior
has been kept as close as possible to the
original. Orange and lemon trees, rose-beds
and old vines about a 17th Century colonnade
that frames marvellous views of the Amalfi
Coast, the Gulf of Salerno and Punta Licosa. |

EPISCOPIO WINNERY...
THE WINE OF AMALFI COAST |
|
|
|
Pasquale
Palumbo founded the Cantina Episcopio winery in 1860. Before opening
the Hotel that would be named after him, Pasquale Palumbo used to
dedicate himself to the art of winemaking.
The “Episcopio” trademark and wines have been handed down from
father to son and are now being developed by Marco Vuilleumier,
Pasquale Palumbo’s great-grandson. Our winery, which has celebrated
its 140th anniversary in 2000, embodies a tradition which we have
never betrayed.
The wines are infused with the atmosphere of the coast. They would
like to imagine that even in the darkness of the winery – “a place
of seasons” and treasure trove of tastes and bouquets – the wines
have managed to preserve the variegated character of the landscape.
Wine is still made from local grapes: Ginestrella, Pepella, San
Nicola, Biancazita and Biancatenerea for white wines; Aglianico,
Serpentaria and Piedirosso for red wines. Currently, we produce
around 30,000 bottles per year – exclusively from its grapes grown
in the “San Lorenzo” vineyards in Scala. |

Ravello
Rosso 1860/2000 Riserva speciale:
Before opening, in 1875, the hotel which would be named after him,
Pasquale Palumbo used to dedicate himself to the art of winemaking.
Since 1860, he had tended his fine vineyards in a plot adjoined to
an Episcopal dwelling. Hence the name “Episcopio”,
a trademark which has been handed down from father to son, giving
rise to a true culture of wine. A 140 year old tradition is now
celebrated with this special reserve, produced in a limited number
of bottles. |

Costa
d'Amalfi Ravello Rosso d.o.c.
Ravello Rosso is made from Aglianico, Piedirosso and Serpentaria
grapes, im-portant varieties grown in the district of Ravello since
time immemorial. It is of a beautiful ruby red appearance rich in
slightly amber-coloured reflections. Its ethereal scents evidence a
bouquet of ripe red fruit against a background of delicate spicy
notes. Its remarkably full taste and flavour, followed by a slighlty
tannic finish, elegantly blend with alco-holic and fruity notes
which further enhance the velvet-soft characterisitcs of this wine. |
