Tenuta di
Ricavo is a rather unique property, sort of a hamlet, composed of a main
villa and several houses around it. In the old days in Italy, a Tenuta
was the name given to a property where the landlord shared fifty, fifty
with his tenants the proceeds of the crops or animal growing and in
exchange, he let them live on the property.
Tenuta di Ricavo was one of these properties which in the 60’s were
converted into a hotel by the grandmother of its present owner,
Christina. Naturally all the used to be houses of the agricultural
tenants are now where the hotel rooms are, every one different... Many
of the rooms have a terrace looking out to the woodlands of the
surrounding mountains. There are some particularly extra nice, such as
room No. 5, also called the bridal suite. This room does not have a
terrace, it is on the first floor of the main house and is accessed by a
narrow stair case, but is large as a ballroom and furnished with lovely
authentic Renaissance pieces.
Tenuta di Ricavo is an excellent location to visit the Chianti region,
because the property is right in the centre of Chianti. Inquire with the
hotel about the Ricavo specials; these are certain periods of the year
in which they offer real low rates for stays of four nights or more. |
