Hotel Tiferno, which is one of
the oldest in Umbria (1895), has been completely restored. It is located
in a small square in the historic centre of the hospitable Citta di
Castello, in a XIth Century palace that was once the monastery of the
church of St. Francis, which is located nearby. Tiferno was the Roman
name of the town, and the hotel has preserved the original architecture
of this former convent, with its ribbed vaults and large chimneys, but
has also acquired a small collection of paintings by Alberto Burri,
whose work is also to be seen in the museum dedicated to him. The modern
rooms (38 units) are functional and very comfortable. This sober and
elegant establishment is a good stopping point for a tour of Umbria.
There is a good restaurant at the hotel, but if you wish to dine in town
"Amici miei" restaurant is a recommended choice which should not be
missed. |
