The Hotel Urgeiriça was built by an English man in the year 1930. He came to the region to work in the new Uranium mines found there at the time. Evidently he fell in love with region and decided to stay, so he built a hotel for his fellow Brits. Later in the eighties the hotel was sold. Its present Portuguese owner refurbished it completely and added a third floor. The remodeling was finished in 1995. Today this hotel can be considered one of those well kept secrets, it is somewhat like a chateau in Portugal, but with a well preserved English style. Plenty of ample salons, a wonderful restaurant where lunch or dinner can be enjoyed in a beautiful verandah and bedrooms, each one different one from the other, some with beautiful antique furniture, others with classic English pieces, and almost all, with a terrace to the countryside. Rooms categories are divided between standard and superior and although some standard rooms seam superior, the ones classified as superior, are really like a junior suite (only 10 of them in total). They also have five wonderful villas around the main building, which are fully equipped, (even dishwasher). These villas are really small houses fit for a family to live in! When booking this hotel is advisable to indicate the characteristics of the room desired, if available they will be reserve it for you. |
