Among the various venues in the province for an event, one particularly striking setting is in a ‘wine cathedral’: one of more than forty bodegas devoted to the “Jerez” (sherry) brand, where lunch or dinner (accompanied by a show) is sure to be a magical and unforgettable moment.
Some bodegas, offering visitors the chance to sample their wide variety of caldos (wines), are simply a must-see.
Jerez is also home to one of the greatest world-famous shows – “How the Andalusian Horses Dance”, which features riders from the Royal Andalusian School of Equestrian Art and takes place at the Palacio del Recreo de las Cadenas. This is a beautiful palace designed by French architect Charles Garnier – he of the Paris Opera House – and draws the attention of thousands of visitors every year. The palace and its surroundings are another of the most captivating spots in the city for hosting an event.
In Jerez they know how to honour their visitors. Members of international royalty, actors and actresses, sportsmen and women, heads of state, filmmakers and an endless array of well-known figures from around the world have passed through its bodegas. In addition, the city has hosted significant sporting events, such as the World Equestrian Games and Formula 1 testing, and is also home to the Motorcycling World Championship every year. The professionals know they can look forward to a comprehensive and privileged experience.
Jerez is the birthplace of the Carthusian horse. The ‘Hierro del Bocado’ stud farm inherited the animals once kept by the monks of the nearby Cartuja de Jerez (monastery) and the authentic Carthusian bloodline is maintained under expert guidance. Watching these noble animals parade past your eyes in a spectacular show is not to be missed.
Making the most of the province’s heritage, local companies specialising in conference management will set up a wide variety of programs tailored to the client in every respect: culture, history, tradition, climate, sea, mountains, gastronomy...
Jerez offers the very best of Flamenco each day in its famous tablaos, in addition to some very interesting flamenco performances: from flamenco recitals in the numerous Peña Flamenca clubs to be found dotted around the city, the traditional Bulería Festival (in September), to the famous Jerez International Flamenco Festival which takes place each year during February and March.
The Royal School of Equestrian Art, one of the “must see” tourist attractions in Jerez de la Frontera, was founded for the purpose of conserving, selecting and improving the Andalusian horse breed. Tourists can choose from many shows to enjoy, but without a doubt the show, “How the Andalusian Horses Dance” is an authentic equestrian ballet. Its choreography is based on Classic and Vaquera Dressage reprises, with quintessentially Spanish music and outfits typical of the 18th century. Only those who have seen it can appreciate this spectacular performance. A tour of the school and its facilities takes a half day.
There is an 18th century legend that tells of a wine dealer who decided to settle in Jerez. Because of the love that he had for his watches he became the eternal guardian of this magnificent collection, and a unique relationship developed between the man and his watches. The result: one of the world’s most important collections, with 300 watches from the 17th, 18th and 19th century, in perfect working order. It is a half day’s visit to enjoy this magical atmosphere.
