It was following this ethos that Carlo Cinque - known to his friends as "Carlino" created a jewel of Italian hospitality to express his love for his land of Positano to travelers. Il San Pietro was built on the promontory that Carlo had loved since he was a child, which gave the best view of the village and the coast. Originally just a mass of rocks, oak trees & the ruin of a small house, Carlo purchased the property from his brother in law in 1962 and the work began. Eight years later, Il San Pietro opened to guests on June 29th, 1970.
Among the towns along the Amalfi coast, Positano is considered to be "the pearl". Fabled to have been founded by the god Poseidon, artifacts have been found dating human habitation to the Paleolithic era. In Roman & medieval times, Positano was an important port town of the Amalfi republic. Although a relatively poor fishing village during the first half of the 20th century, it began to attract large numbers of tourists in the 1950s & 60s, becoming a hub for artists, musicians & film stars. In addition to its artistic & architectural wealth, history, traditional festivals, hotels & boutiques, the town boasts a wealth of enviable beaches. The Spiaggia Grande (the Great Beach) & poetic Fornillo, which owes its name to the bread ovens used in Roman times, are famous.

Renovated in early 2016, Il San Pietro kitchen has already become the talk of the culinary world! Digging into 1806 cubic meters of solid rock, It took 54 builders, electricians & engineers, working three 24 hour shifts, just 5 months to complete this one-of-a-kind 400 sq meter feat of engineering. "My aim is to enhance the existing product. I have great respect for the ingredients." Many of the products used by his team of 32 cooks, come from Il San Pietro's vegetable garden or from local growers.
The Carlino restaurant is exclusive to our resident guests and offers al fresco dining next to the sea. It’s the perfect place to sample popular local dishes made from fresh seasonal ingredients. The restaurant was named after Carlino Cinque, the hotel founder, and can be reached in just 45 seconds using the elevator carved into the rock or a pleasant walk through our vegetable gardens.

A3 motorway Napoli-Pompei-Salerno, take the Castellammare di Stabia exit, then take the State Road SS145 towards Sorrento/Positano/Amalfi. Follow directions to Positano(State Road SS163), pass by Positano town and continue towards Amalfi. The hotel is just 2 km from the town center.
From Salerno and the South
