A former mansion and farm, this magnificent Norman chateau of the eighteenth century, “La Chenevière”, finds its charm in the testimony of the times it went through. Constructed in an area dedicated to the cultivation of hemp in the eighteenth century, then a breeding farm for exceptional foals during the nineteenth century, the chateau was occupied by the Germans during World War II, and then the Americans after the D-Day landings. It was fully restored in 1988 to become the lush hotel-restaurant that it is today. La Chenevière has now 29 spacious and comfortable rooms that reflect the elegance and romance of its design. The decor of each room has been designed individually, but always with attention paid to the combination of modern comforts with traditional luxury.

The Grounds

La Chenevière is set in a park of 12 hectares of which 2 include the walled garden with a heated outdoor pool (open from mid-May until end of September), a tennis court and bicycles. The rose gardens offer luxurious fragrances and many exotic trees make this place an ideal retreat to enjoy a peaceful rest.

Every year in May, La Chenevière invites France’s best artisans and nursery gardeners to its Flower Show.

Wedding and Celebration

The Chenevière is a Norman style chateau that has the charm and ambiance of an old manor house. Located in a beautiful park with old trees, La Chenevière offers an exceptional setting for both prestigious and warm weddings.

At only 2h30 from Paris and 1 hour from the Mont -Saint- Michel, between the town of Bayeux, famous for its tapestry that was registered with UNESCO in 2007, and the landing beaches, La Chenevière is ideally located to allow you to discover the many facets of the history of Normandy. The Normandy coast of the Pays d’Auge is called “la Côte Fleurie”. Its name refers to the pleasant countryside and ornate landscape, as well as many beautiful towns including:

  • Deauville, famous for its horse racing, sale of yearlings in August, its polo tournaments and the American Film Festival in early September
  • Trouville-sur-Mer, a seaside resort adjacent to Deauville, where you can eat ice cream or have a drink on the busy fishing port
  • The small port of Honfleur, that holds an incredible charm that inspired many impressionist painters
  • Houlgate and its typical villas of the Belle Epoque
  • And finally Cabourg, known for hosting celebrities such as Proust and more recently for its Film Festival – Journée Romantiques et Européennes de Cabourg

Each of these cities exhibits the charm and authenticity of the region, also offering a wide range of leisure facilities, not least casinos.

The Bessin coast is a little wilder. Journey back in time to the era of William the Conqueror by visiting the fortified farms, abbeys, medieval fortresses and Norman manors, as the Manoir d’Argouges. The Bessin coast is also where you will find the D-day landing beaches, a tourist must-see: the artificial harbor at Arromanches, Omaha Beach Beach (Colleville-sur-Mer Saint-Laurent-sur-Mer) dominated by the American war cemetery and the Pointe du Hoc, or Sainte-Mère –Église that was the scene of the Allied landings June 6, 1944. Finally, the traditional fishing port of Port-en-Bessin, not far from La Chenevière, offers the possibility of a stroll on the pier with panoramic setting.

Cruise down the Norman roads lined with apple trees and enjoy the products of authentic regional farmers. The famous distilleries of Normandy open their doors to taste the world famous regional apple juice, cider and calvados. Discover the manufacturing of Norman cheeses like Camembert, le Livarot and le Pont-L’évêque. Local fishermen also welcome you for a tour of the oyster beds. You can go to the market and buy your fish on thesame night they are caught.

The hotel organizes private tours with guides in French, German, English, Spanish and Russian speaking and has mountain bikes available to its customers. Additional activities are also possible near the hotel, such as discovering the landing beaches in Jeeps, Quads, Buggy or Kart Cross; horse riding, hiking, sailing, yachting, paragliding, hot air ballooning, bungee jumping and golf at the renowned Omaha Beach Golf Club. The chateau also has a helipad to allow you to come and go at your discretion and enjoy the area from the sky.

The Botanist

A New Norman Gastronomy

Le Botaniste: gastronomic restaurant of Château la Chenevière by Didier Robin

Didier Robin, chef of the restaurant, is a fan of cooking made from Norman farm produce. He works rigorously with the best producers of the region, as well as the gardeners of the castle to select the best of the vegetable garden among the herbs for his kitchen, fruits and vegetables that compose it.

The menu changes with the seasons and offer a gastronomic cuisine "land and sea", inspired by the traditional and regional recipes to which Didier Robin adds his touch of creativity. This demanding kitchen is associated with a wine cellar composed of the best wines selected by our sommelier.

The restaurant is open at noon for special occasions, family meals, business lunch, group, etc. Anxious to protect the environment, the restaurant has been offering its customers since the spring of 2012, honey from its own hives, used in cooking and also available for sale.
