The location of the Calcina pension on the Zattere waterfront is a fortunate one. The incomparable panoramic view of the Giudecca Canal that the promenade offers, along with the light and sunshine that create a refuge and favoured walkway for Venetians even on the coldest of winter days, make it one of the most enchanting parts of Venice.
The hotel is an historic place and is part of the "Historical Places of Italy" a selected club of restaurants, hotels, pastry shops, caffeterias, which should have more than 150 years of history and which should have kept the original, paintings, objects and materials of the former places. La Calcina is a family run hotel ( the same family from 3 generations) well taken care of, but it is not a luxury hotel.
Its Restaurant " Bar Caffè La Piscina" offers a genuine and tasty mediterranean cuisine along with a good wine list. The snack bar and the home made sweets make it a even more enticing place for a coffee break in the afternoon.
