ABOUT DUBLIN |
|
|
|
Ireland is a country with a rich turbulent past. By exploring
the past of Ireland one can better understand and appreciate the
culture of this epic land and what makes the Ireland of today.
Dublin its capital, is the city of the fastest growing
economy in Europe and it has a lot to offer her visitors.
Starting on the south side of the city where La Stampa is, you
will find adjacent, the Mansion house, the official
residence of the Lord Mayor. Also close by are the recently
refurbished government buildings, the national museum and also
the national gallery of Ireland which houses a fine collection
of masterpieces. Temple Bar is also just a stones throw away
from La Stampa and runs along the river Liffey backing on to
Dame street. It is linked to the Northside of the city by a
series of foot bridges the most famous being the Ha'penny bridge
which has become a Dublin icon, and the more modern "millenium
footbridge". Completed just in time for Dublins year 2000
celebrations. This area is now known as Dublin's cultural
quarter or left bank and is host to famous galleries, cafes and
bars. A stroll through Merrion Square will also be
interesting. A walk in the footsteps of Oscar Wilde will let you
witness the splendour of some of the finest Georgian
architecture in the world. |
