Beyond the garden and swimming pool, the grounds of
the Château are here for you to explore. A haven for wildlife, where you
can often see otters, red squirrels, deers, hares, tree frogs, turtles
and an enormous variety of birds, including the golden oriel and the
nightingale, which sings throughout the spring and early summer. The
migration path of the Siberian cranes passes directly overhead,
making a spectacular sight in spring and autumn as they fly over in
great, gaggling skeins. The lack of light pollution makes the night
sky fascinatingly beautiful, with shooting stars a regular
occurrence. |

Bordeaux is one of the most prestigious wine regions in the world.
Château Le Mas de Montet is within striking distance of hundreds of
famous Bordeaux vineyards, the rapidly improving vineyards around
Bergerac, and of course the Cognac region. Nearly all vineyards, wine
châteaux and cognac houses in the region offer free visits.
Why not visit some and taste a glass of wine.
There is little in the world
more alluring than a glass of Bordeaux.

ABOUT THE REGION |
|
 |
Château Le Mas de Montet is ideally
placed to explore the Dordogne, Charente
and Bordeaux regions. There are
many interesting places to visit nearby.
Ribérac: An ancient village with
interesting historic buildings. The
church from its construction was used by
the faithful clustered around.
Victims of flooding in the low town, the
Benedictines from the Priory of Chalard
took up residence there. They were
especially required to pray for the
souls of the founders, buried in the
chapel in the south transept. In 1568,
during the Wars of Religion, Asssiel’s
Huguenot troops set fire to the church.
The thickness of the walls of the apse
and the base of the bell-tower resisted.
The Collegiate Church of Notre Dame
reverted to being a place of Catholic
worship at the beginning of the 19th
Century, following a major restoration.
Angoulême: is the main city
of the department of Charente. For
centuries, it has been sitting
with pride on its rocky peak, yesterday
surrounded with strong ramparts, the
city has now developed beyond its
ancient limits ..The cradle of Angoulême
is the top of the hill known as
d'Ecolisma, where the ancestors of the
people of Angoulême settled safely in
the past. Nowdays we can see in the old
Angoulême; the high city and the low
city. The upper city includes in the
north the primitive Angoulême, with its
narrow streets, its City Hall located in
the ancient castle and, in the south,
the prefecture department, with its wide
avenues and its beautiful bourgeois home
fronts.
