Chateau de L'isle
Marie is located very near the
historic town of Sainte-Mère-Eglise and Utah and Omaha Landing beaches, the
American Cemetery and the Bayeux Tapestry. Within easy driving distance is
Le Mont Saint-Michel and the towns of St-Malo, Caen, Cherbourg, Villedieu-les-Poêles,
and all the sights and delights of the Cotentin Peninsula.
Sainte Mère Eglise: was the first town
liberated by the American airborne divisions on
D-day, only five minutes away.
Le Mont Saint-Michel: The most visited monument in
France and eighth wonder of the world. This ancient
fortified abbey is built on rocks where the Archangel
Michael is said to have appeared in 708 AD. Le Mont
Saint-Michel is an hour and a half drive away.
Villedieu-les-Poêles: The town is full of
workshops where coppersmiths create the world famous pots
and pans. One can also visit one of the oldest bell
founderies in France. Great for gift shopping.
Caen: Many restored mediaeval churches, including
the Abbaye aux Hommes with the tomb of William the Conqueror
and the Abbaye aux Dames, with that of his queen Mathilde.
There are fine art museums and galleries and the Memorial
dedicated to Peace, which offers an unforgettable
multi-media experience. |
