Meaning Iron Gate which refers to the door to a
Republican crypt in an area full of early
Christian catacombs, Grottaferrata is a
delightful, garden town located south east
of Rome. It developed around the San Nilo
Abbey and still, it remains as the heart of the
town, although there are other masterpieces that
should not be forgotten, such as the catacombs,
the Savelly Castle and Ville Tuscolane. Its
proximity to Rome, its green open spaces, the
excellent production of wine and oil and of
course its ancient Abbey, make Grottaferrata an
attractive place to visit. |
