The medieval village of
S.Giovanni d' Asso rises in the heart of the 'Crete Senesi' and 'white
truffle' territory. It is a beautiful medieval small village worth to have a
look around. Its castle located at the top of a hill, overlooking the Asso
River valley, is probably to be included amongst the properties belonging to
the Imperial Officers, however in the ancient times it was the seat of a
rural Etruscan settlement. The old defensive structures around the village,
which grew up alongside the castle, have almost completely disappeared,
except for a large tower. The Castle is however well preserved and located
in the higher part of the town, called 'Borghetto' [Hamlet], its origin
dates back to the 13th and 14th centuries.
If you want to go a little further, why not visit Siena, located not far from

examples of a medieval city, born
on three hills and enclosed by walls. It is an interesting place to

appearance untouched, with narrow alleys and noble palaces, surrounded by
a beautiful hill landscape. On the way there, nothing can surpass the
exquisite beauty of the countryside: it is breathtaking. If you meander into
the hilltowns of Tuscany any time of the year, all your senses are rewarded
with the splendors that this enchanting area of Italy has to offer.
