Mas de la Fouque is located at 3
Km away from Saintes Maries de la Mer, a lovely fishing port. The village of Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer is the
genuine capital of the Camargue, with
welcoming inhabitants, shopping streets, gipsy parties, and unique
nature and protected beaches. A place worth visiting, with a beautiful
church, which dominates the village and is visible from 10 kms away. Built
near the mouth of the Petit Rhône, the church was thus in an extremely
important strategic position as, at the time of its construction (9th to
11th centuries), pirates were rife on the coast and the population had to
defend themselves against raids by Saracens and Arabs. |
