The “Mas Passamaner” was built
in 1922 by the prestigious architect Lluís
Domènech i Montaner. The engravings, stained glass windows, sculptures,
ceramics and wrought-iron endow the house with a Modernist air of that
striking beauty gradually impaired by the passing years and negligence
but recently recovered in all its splendour by restoration work,
undergone by the architect Ángel García Puertas. The building is the
ideal setting for a luxury hotel complex based on the theme of Modernism,
a fundamental movement in Catalan history which does not fail, after a
hundred years, to captivate with its power and beauty.
Situated in a finca of 20,000 square meters and surrounded by fruit
trees, this original modernist building has been supplemented by several
modern annex buildings, including a two level building containing a
cluster of double rooms, a superb restaurant, a luxurious spa and a
building with two suites (which have their own small swimming pools). In
the main building some rooms have terraces and in the annex building the
ground floor rooms open to the garden and pool. Each one of the rooms
and suites has the name of an outstanding Catalonian modernist architect
and inside you will find a brief biography as well as different graphic
material. So with every visit, the guest will have the opportunity to
learn about a movement that one hundred years later still captivates us.
Besides, there are saunas, turkish baths, aesthetics studio, massage and
beauty salons and, of course a gym, tennis, paddle, putting green and a
heliport for those who prefer not to bring a car!
The staff is friendly and helpful and the restaurant is directed by
Joaquin Koerper, one of the greatest chefs in Spain,
The Mas Passamaner is a very pleasant place to relax, enjoy modernist
architecture, and have some fine food. |
