THALASSOTHERAPY CENTRE |
|
|
|
Masseria San Domenico is home to one of
Italy’s best Thalassotherapy spas. The spa offers a host of treatments
including
massages, facials and Balneotherapy,
using the rich seawater and seaweed found in the nearby Adriatic Sea
which are an exceptional cocktail producing a equilibrating, tonic
invigorating and detoxifying effect. The seawater is completely purified by filter and heated once it
arrives at the spa. Top treatments include ”Douche d’Evian” or ”Douche d’Effusion” , a relaxing massage whereby two masseuses use special
oils containing marine extracts and the Thalatherm where the body is
covered with a layer of crushed seaweed and then warmed with seawater
steam 15 minutes. The latter treatment is thought to improve blood
circulation. |

Relax at the beautiful lake like swimming pool,
circled by rocks
and plants, or just stroll down a few metres to the pristine waters of the Apulian Adriatic,
and lounge or sunbathe at the shore of the private beach. |

If you are the active type, why not try some working out at the
gym or play some tennis at any of the two tennis courts. |

For golf lovers, San Domenico Golf lies next to the town of
Savelletri, with its southern boundary as close to the sea as
the road and rocky coastline will allow. To the north are the
olive groves and agricultural fields that the site was once part
of. Now, the formerly flat and featureless land is a challenging
18-hole golf course that offers an unforgettable experience for
visitors, and superb views of the Adriatic Sea from every tee,
green and fairway. Created by European Golf Design, the course
measures over 6,220m, has a par of 72 and has been constructed
to the highest standards with greens conforming to USGA
specifications. As is to be expected of a golf course so close
to the sea, wind can play a significant role in the challenge of
the course. Together with strategic bunkering, definitive
fairway shaping and clever green design, a thought-provoking
golf test has been set. A golf cart and shuttle service are
provided for guests. |

ABOUT THE REGION |
|
|
|
Of notable interest are the ruins and Museum of Egnathia. This
ancient city, dating back to Roman times, was the last fort before
Brindisi on the Appian Way. Also not to be missed is Martina Franca, a
city renowned for its Baroque architecture or Polignano with houses
clinging to steep cliffs or Ostuni referred to local as “The White
City”. Puglia boast extensive Roman remains including the
impressive theatres of Lecce and Lucera and the celebrated Roman
columns, which mark end of the Appian
Way. Also not to be missed is Alberobello with its Trulli,
limestone dwellings found in the southern region of Puglia, and
remarkable examples of drywall construction, a prehistoric
building technique still in use in this region. The Trulli are
made of roughly worked limestone boulders collected from
neighbouring fields and they feature pyramidal, domed or
conical roofs built up of corbelled limestone slabs. |
