Located in the
heart of Tuscany, the town of Pietrasanta is a convenient destination for
the traveller eager to explore the artistic and architectural treasures of
the region. Its historical centre of Pietrasanta, with its smart Cathedral
Square, is one of the most charming centres in the area. The marble facade
and the brick bell-tower of St. Martin's Cathedral (built in 1526-1528)
stand out particularly well. As a centre for the working of marble and the
art of sculpting, has been since immemorial time the meeting place of
artists and sculptors, from the Age of Michelangelo to Henry Moore and MirĂ².
Among the artists who have worked here are: Igor Mitoraj and Fernando Botero
who donated some of their works to the town. Its marina is famous too.
Marina di Pietrasanta has privileges that are enviable and difficult to
equal: the blue and immense sea, clean and fresh the caresses the beach in
all its length, soft with fine sand, smooth and plentiful, the relaxing,
rich woods that grant beautiful shadows, full of hidden places and delicious
aromas of resins, that mix together with the odours of the sea. Whether looking for a holiday of
art, beach, or sun, Pietrasanta is a destination point for the
discriminating visitor. |
